Have you metered the outputs from each alternator coil?
Try a MOSFET reg/rec.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Hi m8 pm me and we'll work it through.

essentially you either have a short from the reg that is working the diodes too hard, but not enough to blow a fuse e.g.high resistance short to the lights, or you might have a poor ground wire to between the mag and reg. There is only 5 wires in it.....3 are for dc power conversion, one out to the battery and one back to the ignition.

Are you buying new or second hand? Are you buying the exact reg? Do you have loads of extras......

The only thing which could under normal conditions drive too much load would be stacks of lights or motors..storms are lets say pretty weak on the old electronics fronts....but if you no accessories but haven't had teh bike long it would be cworth checking the main red and main yellow wires from the reg...

Try metering between the yellow and then the red wire The yellow that does not go back to the mag, and a "good earth to the battery - preferably a wire" with ignition on but don't start to see if there is a volage drop, then if you know how to do it check for current leaks, then start the bike. The red wire should go battery positive [eg same voltage as the battery under charge] but the yellow should be at least 13.5 volts. If not then you have a high resistance short loading the reg.
 complex personalities lead you to v-twin happiness......if you can get to turn in.......that is.....

Sell it and buy a Honda.
They're usually pretty reliable...
