Chain and sprockets

Post by Hilly »

Just bought an 02 firestorm but the chain is at its limit. What do you advise as the best replacement?

I have a gold DID X ring chain, a standard front sprocket and a Renthal rear sprocket(standard number of teeth on both sprockets)

Supersprox rear is lighter but more expensive.
Looks the biz, though.

Fronts- all seem to be much the same, tbh.
When you fit it, the front one flaps about a bit- that's ok, they all do it.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for the info. on the front sprocket. I am waiting for the chain ste to arrive by post. I have gone for the DID gold x ring and standard sprockets. Still waiting for the insurance to come through the post. Got silcolene oil, honda filter and honda spark plugs. I am stripping the bike down and am replacing any worn parts.

I had a nightmare with this change and I ordered a DID kit.

If you are fitting "DID" sprockets, check the chain tension all the way around when you're done. DID dont make sprockets and the ones which I had were made to a tolerance which I (a newbie) and a race mechanic were shocked at. The result of the first set of sprockets was a chain tension which would potentially have snapped under load even though the slack measured fine at certain points.

In the end I went for Renthal sprockets which are made to a finer tolerance, but never did manage to get it perfect. Even the Renthal are made to a tolerance which surprised the mechanic, who was actually a Renthal dealer. Was quite the experience all around.

If you want more information, I'll happily fill you in on what happened, just PM me as its a long story. I should add, that the DID chain is fine and of good quality.
