K & N - Any Adjustments Needed?

Post by Griff1977 »

I'm planning on a service and am hoping to put a K & N in to replace stock filter. Will the bike run ok if that's all I do or will I need to tweek carbs at all?

I'm also going for braided hoses all round and will get the callipers proper cleaned up so I'll hopefully see/feel a difference.

As far as I know the K&N filters need setting up quite carefully to get the best out of the bike. You will be lucky to get it running right without jetting it to suit. If you find otherwise please let me know as I have one I want to throw in but am in the process of jetting some spare carbs.

Depends on end cans, but normally K+N's leave a "hole" in the lower mid-range that needs to be jetted out.
Bearing in mind the additional airflow exiting the exhausts, if cans are fitted, and then adding extra air flowing into the carbs, it's no surprise that you need to make some carb changes as well, really.

Factory Pro offer a range of different kits depending on what changes you have made to your bike (it's probably the same with Dynojet kits), and supply a range of suggested jets that will get you near enough, but you can always improve thing with a couple of dyno runs.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Cheers Kev & Tony. I've got my standard cans that I've bafflectomied. Runs well now. Think I'll fit the k & n as experiment, keep original air filter (only fitted it last Aug) and see how it goes. Griff.
