Head Bearings

Post by darrenmartin »

Hi all, I went out for a blat on some new roads the other day and hit at least 2 "ball breaker" pits in the road  . Im sure now that iv got play/ notches in the head bearings :x and so want to change em that. 1st what do you guys recomend for replacement parts? and 2nd most of you regulars know what iv done to my Storm so far and the work shop level im at as far as tinkering with her goes. So is it a job that i could do and any help or tips would, as ever be greatly recived. Thanks guys and keep up the fantastic work.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Yo Lumpy hows tricks. once i pull the front brakes on and the dive has gone from the forks theres an audible "click" at the head bearings. The bike also feels slightly differant through the bars. Like theres a little more vibration. Its subtle but its there. I need to lift the front wheel off the ground and do the old "push, pull" test on the forks. Im sure theres a change taken place as the "ball breaker's" i sufferd were substantial! 8O thats what i looked like inside my lid!

Taper bearings are the way to go. Bit of a pain fitting them, but well worth it IMHO
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Just do them as well while you're there, make a day of it.

But where are they?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
