car drivers

Post by TonyW650 »

Decided to take bike out as was getting a little house crazy.
I'm not in agony but its not from the ride, I got nudged up the back side at a mini round about and the guy drove off, think he was expecting me to go and I didnt and he moved or rolled forwards and just nudge my rear tyre enough that I lost my balance and fell over.
he then reversed and drove round me, I dont think he even realise he had nudged me!

I had enough of car drivers and lorrys, almost got taken out by a lorry in my car the other day, the driver looked straight at me, and pulled out, I was in middle lane with car on outside and had no where to go, thank god I got a pokey motor, 3L V6 otherwise I reckon he world have taken me out.

Do people not look any more or pay attention!

The roads are a dangerous place and even when it appears that someone is looking straight at you, they could be looking beyond you. That driver is bang out order driving off like that and should have at least checked to see if you was allright or needed a hand lifting the bike back up or something.

I'm not sure whether you did or not and I'm not blaming you or anything, but that is the exact reason why when stopped at a junction or lights why they teach in the DVLA test to put your right foot on the rear brake and left foot down on the ground. First the brake light shows you are stopped and second if someone happens to bump into the back off you the bike is more steady.

How's the bike and your back are you allright. Any witnesses about. I never ceases to amaze me how some people behave on the roads, no awareness or make stupid manoeuvres. Every time I think I've seen it all now, I see something else that is worse.

Riding through London rush hour traffic at 8.30 this morning it wasn't so much the car/lorry drivers but the scooters and cyclists that where worse and I had to be aware off. Overcrowded roads it was like Thailand, India or somewhere like that. Two wheelers swerving in and out of lanes and slaloming through traffic. You should have seen the cyclists around Parliment square riding down the middle of lanes, bloody nightmare. I had a stressful ride over to marty's this morning.

i was thinking about you guys who live in central london the other day . i live in a medium sized town which takes half an hour to go from one side to the other (by car) in the rush hour. on saturday it was gridlocked and i was on my bike and i didnt enjoy it at all! i live on one edge so i can get to some decent biking roads in about 3 minutes , but where do you go if you live where you do (carl) to get on some decent roads ? ?

on the thread subject i believe car drivers and cyclists standards are both going downhill. its a lack of respect for others and every body rushing the whole time i think.

Out of London  The nearest for me is straight down the A3 towards Boxhill or Guildford. There's also the other option of cutting down through the south circular then out towards Kent or I could go either down the M4 or A40 out towards Middlesex. Or I have to cut across London and go East towards Essex. But none of these are that close and with the exception of the A3 there is a bit of travelling across London. And all options are going to involve a tank of fuel there and back just to get to nice open roads, surbian/country lanes. :(

When I was on the bike this morning I was thinking If I had to commute at the common 8am ish then back home at 5-6ish I may consider not riding a bike (which I have never thought of before ever) and find some alternative means. I would love to cycle but my leg wont allow that as I can't bend enough at my knee to get the circumference at the pedals. London transport is expensive and just as hard going, just less danger element involved and more time consuming. Driving is just a waste of time and money. I really don't know what I would do. I guess I would look for local work within walking distance.

I have lived in London pretty much all my life, with the exception of a couple of years in Portugal, and used to be proud of being a Londoner. I'm not anymore, I cant stand the chaos and would love to move out to the country. I lived with friends off and on in East Sussex and experienced a different way off life down there. Village life. But the work possibilities are not good there and a lot of people have to travel great distances/commute to work, even to London. :eek2

Had my foot on the brake and just nudged enough I lost balance.
where I was theres a bit of a funny camper as the road used to be cobbled and they have removed them and patched the road surface. it was only a tiny nudge but enough to just to unbalance me, I reckon her rolled forwards as there is a big dip there and I was on the ball off my foot, hence me loosing balance, and no one was about, all I can tell you was car was blue! thats it.
Ive reported it but police have said theres not much chance.
from the way the guy reacted I reckon he may have thought I just lost my footing.

scrapped engine case, bent clutch lever, bar end scuffed, rear peg hanger scuffed, paint taken off belly pan.
not alot really Ive had worse got hi up the butt a few years back I was on a gpz900 and I got thrown forward, I was hit at about 25mph

I'm max'd out on the pain killers and a little space cadet!

Come to Milton Keynes, it lacks in many thins, but traffic is never really a problem, even now.

I cycle at the moment and tbh there's Richard on/in every form of transport. Other day this Audi TT S something, got totally crazed because I held him up for no more than 10 secs (he came careering up behind) - he floored it after going by, forgot the junction about 100m away and almost skidded into the back of a bus ffs! sorry to hear yr news tony, trust me he knew he'd knocked you over, i reckon he was either embarrased or uninsured, shame you didn't clock his number plate, as you might well know my job is driving in central london, and i think i've seen just about every type of bad driving/riding and walking. people just don't care, the only thing that keeps the serious accident figures down is the fact that the average speed is less than 10mph, this is due to traffic/road works/ delivery vans and pedestrians crossing the road at traffic lights or whenever they ferking choose too
it grinds my gears when i've had to sit patiently for 2 to 3 mins at a set of lights and as they turn green some c__ksuckers walks across and impedes my progress, wait your turn knobhead, this must happen at least half a dozen times everyday.... :x
rant over for now, i hope your pain calms down tony, and as carl says, we generally have to ride for 20mins or so before we get to any half decent roads
on the plus side, at least the tyres are warm by then :D
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!

I have had several very close calls lately. It seems as if drivers are dumbing down and expect their autos to do everything for them. Right after I bought my Hawk, a man of ethnicity that of a group not used to driving pulled up behind me. He didn't like that I was in front of him so he decided to push me over. I had no idea what was happening. I was sitting on the bike and it began to tip over to my right and I couldn't stop it! After falling to the street, I looked up and saw this moron in his gigantic SUV still moving forward like he wanted to run me over. I got up, he saw me and stopped. I picked up the bike, people shouting and asking if I was OK, and parked the bike in front of him to keep him from moving, then went over to his door and things got out of control. He ended up driving away fast.
Not only that but have had oncoming drivers trying to pass bicycles and crossing into my lane and missing me but clipping my mirror, or the idiot passing another on a mountain road at the apex of a curve just as I come around leaned way over. People here not only put their lives in danger thay put mine in danger, too! They seem to feel justified in risking my life as well as their own.
Sorry for the rant.

This bit made me laugh.

By the sounds of it you have exactly the same kinds of problems over there as we do here. The only difference being thee are less mountains here.

Funny you should mention this because we have had a recent discussion on a tv programme that was on regarding intelligent cars http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 18&t=26461 The future does not look pleasant.
