Engine Temperature Sensor
Hi all...just run the bike up in the garage. Once before a while ago I run the bike stationary to see if the fan would come on and it did. Today I let the bike warm up to the third line on the temp dial and the fan had not yet come on. Shut the bike down. At what point should the fan come on then ?
Thought I would ask before starting to investigate a problem if there was none to look for.
Cheers..Ian

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
the temp sensor is the coolant temp not engine or oil etc its usually comes on just after the halfway marker mate
if you want an engine oil temp gauge you will have to fit one your self

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
Same as mine, just over the halfway mark it kicks in. Have you had the front fairing off at all recently as it's easy to dislodge the plug for the fan on the front of the right hand side rad.

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
A useful mod I've done on my Deauville is to fit an override switch to run the fan manually. It might not be as necessary on the Storm but the DV fan is prone to seizing especially if you ride all year and it never gets to come on in the winter. I run it once a week or so to keep it free. I might do the Storm in the summer.

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
check for little stones in between the fan and the surround by spinning the fan with your finger, if it dislodges something check the fan fuse under the seat, if it ok give it another go and see if it comes on then. Mine comes on just over half way.

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
Thanks for all the replies. It's the coolant temp that was concerning me. I'll have to wait now till next Saturday to fire it up again.
Cheers again..

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
You can always just wire in an override switch for the fan. I have one and it makes me feel better when I am sitting in traffic.....

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
Found out it was the fuse blown. Nice easy fix.
Run the bike up today and the fan kicked in at just over the half way point on the dial.
Thanks again for all the replies.

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
Keep an eye on that there must be a reason for fuse blowing.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I'll have a look at this. I assume it gets wired in place of the thermostat and you therefore set the point at which the fan comes on. Are there wiring instructions included. Definitely be a good idea for the trip to Faro the summer of 2014.
Thanks for the offer of the spare fan

Re: Engine Temperature Sensor
yeh you can wire it in parallel with the existing fan switch (on rh rad) or instead of it.
it should tuck nicely inside the fairing out of the elephants.
there's a little nob to twiddle to set the on/off temp.
and a little sensor to stick somewhere, wherever you want.
you can mount the sensor upto 1m away so you could put the controller near the dash, or under the seat.
i bought the spare fan to fit under the left rad but there isnt enough room.
have to find a slimline one instead.
seems daft having just the one fan
