Hydraulic Lift/Table

Post by Boubepo »

I have a knackered back, which is only going to get worse, it seems to hold up with riding a bike but, foook! does it ache when working or cleaning a bike and generally bending down etc.

So I was looking at getting one of those hydraulic lift tables but they are quite expensive! and very heavy to get shipped

So I was thinking of an alternative to get the bike approx 2 foot off the ground....cheaply.

Has anyone built their own hydraulic lift or ramp or alternative?

Would be glad of any ideas or info

I have the same problem. After a while my lower back starts to ache. My solution is to sit down have a cup of coffee, a smoke and then get back to work. And if it's BSM's bike it's the perfect opportunity for him to work on his own bike. That's after he's made me another cup of Coffee.

I had one and it was awesome but like a tit I sold it when I was struggling for room in the garage, that was two years ago and boy do I miss it. They are pricey but really good to use, mine was a little short so I welded some extra steel on the end to lengthen it.

Look up "motorcycle lift" on ebay and there's usually people selling plan for about £10 so you can build your own.

Have a look at Machine Mart. Not professional quality, but cheap enough and they'll do the job.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It's probably the same one as in Lloyds link.

Just my thoughts. I bought a similar set of plans for the steel lift off ebay some time back. By the time I had sourced and bought the steel, cut it to dimensions, drilled it, welded it, painted it and bought the trolley jack, with my time and cost it wasn`t a lot more to go to Machine Mart and buy one. (I paid around the £300 mark if I remember correctly) And I am a Fabricator/Welder by trade so had access to the necessary kit.
And as Tony said, the one I bought is more than sufficient. I have had everything from the 750 Gixxer up to the 260kg CBX on the lift with no problems at all.

I have a scaffold pipe fitted across the workshop, I can pully the bike off the ground, I then have a plasterers/decorators platform/bench with piece of kitchen worktop on top of it to rest the wheels on

There are some pictures of it in my thread on page 1 and 5 that may give you an idea

Most of it you can probably scrounge

Hope that helps

If you go to your local Machinemart, buy something cheapish, they will ask for your address & e-mail, sign up with them & they will send you periodically
a card that gives you VAT free on purchases on a certain promotional days. Only catch I can see is minimum spend of £50 inc vat (before discount.).

Thanks for all the helpful info guys, very much appreciated.

I'm moving house very soon and will have a decent sized garage for the bikes, so space isn't an issue. I will look at the do-it-yourself options if not it's looking like machine mart
