Are you talking about the cap on the inside end of the Honda ones held on by the roll pin :confused If so, most certainly not. The manuals will tighten up against the tensioner blade which puts the pressure on the chain. You can just set you timing, remove the old Honda ones without locking off and replace with the manuals.

When undoing the old Honda ones, alternate between each bolt an undo a bit at a time so it comes out squarely. Before undoing the bolts completely, give the end of the Honda cct a tap with a hammer or something to break the seal where it's stuck to the gasket and then remove the rest of the bolts.

There is that cap you can pull off the End Carl and slip over a replacement iirc, I think this is what he's talking about

if you buy new oem tensioners from honda or silvers etc, they will not have the end cap in place so you will need to keep the old ones and fit them to the new tensioners (if you decide to fit originals)
with a new roll pin!

you dont need to fit this end cap with manual tensioners.
the tensioner does not touch the chain - there is a plate on the chain guide where the tensioner applies tension - as in this decapitated view!

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Yep just done that to mine and they seem to be working a treat. Piece of mind to know there fitted at last.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
