Missing farting and mostly running on one cylinder

Post by andre5030 »

Changed to manual CCTs and now bikes more or less only running on one cylinder intermittently fireing on two.
I have fitted new ngk spark plugs as well. Ive heard it mentioned that if the timing is out 180 degrees it causes the bike to run but badly, could this be the problem or any other ideas?

I only get the chance to work on it at weekends and wont get at it till least next week but just wondering has anyone got any thoughts?

Could too much or too little cam chain tension have any effect on firing? I did hear the very odd clank coming I think from the front head but its not often at all.

Check you put the vacuum pipe back on the fuel petcock in the right place. It goes behind the fuel hose and not on the lug at the bottom. This is likely to be the cause.

Also make sure the HT leads are seated properly. You need to use a fair bit of force for them to clip on and seat securely.

If you timing was out by 180 the bike would run but would not get past IIRC 7000rpm and would cut out as if you had a limiter there.

You know I think I might of put the hose on the lug at the bottom alright, could of swore I put them back on the right places but will have to check that out then soon as. Cheers Carl was hoping it wasn't the timing. So hopefully the CCTs are ok then too.

Your not first and wont be the last. I think Honda put that one on the bottom just to mess with us. Actually I think it's supposed to be some kind of drain for if the petcock fails.

You should be able to get it from either end by loosening the tank. 8mm spanner for the two front tank mounting bolts would be you best option, then just pivot the tank back.

Right gonna have a go in the back yard with a torch, so it goes to the back of the fuel tap?

this will help if you're missing farting

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
