front end . usd forks etc

Post by vtrjames »

hey all, so .... this bike im building which is going very slowly at the minuite!!its going to get a usd front end!!

my questions are .. can anyone tell me how long the cbr 929 forks are? is it alot shorter than the vtr one?does the bike drop alot at the front?

and by the looks of the pictures ive seen the comfort is a little compromised by the lower clip ons, is this the case?

i know i read the length of the forks somewhere but cant remeber or find the page again..
I dont have all the parts to do the front end yet so is there any parts that can mix and match I.E forks/ wheel from a different bike etc?

aye mate, thats fine ill bear that in mind. i just wonder if i can get a set of r1 forks in the 929 yokes.i have bought the yokes but nothing else yet.
i think the r1 forks are the same 50/54mm but im unsure if the spacing is the same so that could bugger me up for using a r1 wheel and callipers

i do hope it will work with the r1 cos the parts are more available around here, but i dont want a front end full of spacers etc..

just don't rush it mate and you will get them cheap

i think 929, 954 and CBR1000RR 04-07 all fit no problems

Best to stick with Honda mate,

both my dads blade (954) and my storm with a full 954 front end with 75k between them both was still on original fork seals

this GSXR 10000 K6 has less than 9k on the clock and the seal is weeping all ready! the engine is phenomenal but the rest of the bike is made of wombles cheese

yeah youre right maybe best sticking with honda stuff.

thats what i found with my sv 650 , good engine, the rest corroded and the brakes needed stripped and cleaned loads because they kept siezing up.

honda bits it is.i just need cbr forks, wheel with discs, and callipers, oh and clip ons too.

IIRC, R1 c-to-c is 207mm, most Hondas (including VTR) use 204mm.....

i'd stay with honda parts aswell, if your in no rush you can get the parts cheaply enough. for example these yokes just sold on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Firebla ... 4ac3ebb37a
for the blade conversion you will need the following
forks
yokes
front wheel
brake discs
front mudguard
raised clip-ons
you will also need to move the rads back 10mm for steering clearance.
good luck with it buddy...

I had a full 954 end fitted the bars work fine no clearance issues, ask mark slower10 on here he bought my full front off me, the 929 bars are different I belive but a 954 if you have all the parts you can swap over in 45mins max if you have a garage you can suspended the bike from and a wratchet strap

I had a butchers on Ron Ayers microfiche for the 929 & 954 and the numbers for both sets of handlebars are the same.

cheers for the replies guys..

yeah i was going to buy those tripples off ebay but missed them, bummer..but i bought another set off ebay for 89 inc postage,a little dearer but i needed to get going with this..

once i get the tripple clamps fitted im going to look for stuff for the next stage.

the fairing clearance isnt going to be too much of an issue because its going to be a fighter style thing.the only thing i need to watch is comfort i dont want to be lying on the tank,my spine wont allow that.

if the conversion works out well for me im going to do it all over again to my firestorm too.

i'll be ordering some 3.5inch riser bars in the near future. the same ones that kev's got. if you hunt over time all the parts will come along at reasonable prices. make sure the front wheel is straight and unbuckled....
i have a good condition front mudguard for sale, it would need repainting but its great condition other than the paint....

that would be ok as the whole bike will be getting a paint job anyway so will bear that one in mind,

im still kind of hoping that some of the r1 stuff might work because those parts are lying around everywhere round here,so once my tripple clamps are in might have a drive around to some local sellers and do a bit of measuring and playing..maybe come up with some sort of hybrid front end. :D
