revs...

Post by squid1 »

Had a look thru forums but cant see what I'm looking for so help.. My bike is 1999 with carbs iits been sitting a while but now when I start it alls well until I put it under load it will not rev past 4500 :confused
The carbs are clean so is the air filter has new plugs.. Was wondering if the timing is out as the cct was looked at but we thought it looked 1 tooth out..but left it.

have the carbs been stripped down recently to be cleaned? could try taking off the airbox lid and filter, start it up and give it a rev up,check that both slides are lifting in the carbs.if not maybe one of the diaphragms not seated correctly.

Oh and no need to start the bike, just push up on the slide and let go.

Does it slam or just drop closed or does the closed at a controlled rate (and you can hear the air chamber filling)

If it just drops closed, the diaphragm is not seated correctly.

When it is installed correctly you should hear the air being forced in and out of the air chamber when you push the slide open and let it close.

Vacuum pipe to fuel tap on the correct "nipple"? - the one on the side not on the bottom.

(I got "nipple" and "bottom" in one line there)
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

+1
that is always the first port of call. And then take the bike for a good blast, flush some fuel through them carbs.

Well technically it is a vacuum pump but is generally not considered to be a fuel pump which is a totally different type of device which will either work mechanically or electric. So no these bikes don't have a fuel pump.

Unless you ride the XL1000V Varadero which has fuel injection.

And then he wouldn't have a problem checking out his carbs because he has injectors instead :p
