Post by TonyW650 »

Not a firestorm but it is a bike question, done plenty of rwu forks but how hard are usd's to change fork seal and dust seals on?

As im gstting quotes of like 150 quid to do them, or is it better to take em to nike shop?

They are not that hard to change seals on.

About the only main thing different you need to do is take some plastic...(the bag the seals come in works as well as the stuff you can buy) and cover the sharp edges on the grove for the bushing before sliding the dust boot and seal onto the fork leg.

Watch which way you put the seal on also.... it will seem backwards compared to standard forks.

WN forks are USD, they are the same principal so not technically harder to do BUT you need a tool to hold the spacer down to loosen the fork top from the damper rod*, also if don't have (which you won't have) a fork compressor then you need two people to do it, you could use ratchet straps but if they slip you'll have a fork leg missile.

* you can make something up from a short 2" length of scaffold pole (check fork outer diameter first) drill 2 holes opposite each other, get 2 pieces of threaded bar, tap the holes in the scaffold pole, screw bars in, get mate to hold spacer down while you undo nut.
