hey guys i took the hawk to the locall drag strip last night. I've got a K&n 2brothers slip ons and a un tuned jet kit. The best i could manage that night was a 11.9 with a reaction time of .548 with .500 being a perfect light. I did beat this guys 600rr 3 different times and he beat me 1. he would get a lower e/t but i would get through the finish line first . this was because i was getting a sh1t load better launch than him and the torque was crushing him. the 6rr has 1 down 2up sprockets and i also have the same mod waiting to go . This should help me out alot also i need to get a full system . I 'm thinking about getting 11:1 compression pistons for christmas so this should be nice.
later just felt like sharing. the humidity was 98% so i think this why i did so poor
I have basically the same package as you do: two bros slip-ons, dyno jet jet kit, K&N airfilter (not supposed to help much if any) and stock gearing.
Here in Phoenix on a 105 F evening I usually do 11.4's, with my best ever of 11.32 a couple of months ago. Not bad for a bike with 50,000+ miles on it!
Short shifting the bike seems to help, going above 9000 rpm is a waste of time and hurts my times.
Tires don't seem to matter, I have had anything from race take-offs, Sportech m1's and even MEZ4's... back tire never spins. A burn out is a waste of tire too, I only do one when I am showing off.
I don't come off the line too hard either. I let the clutch out fairly quickly with the rev's low, then let the throttle do the rest. You might get a slightly better time slipping the clutch, but a toasted clutch isn't worth a .10 in time for me.
Keeping the engine temp up also seems to help, particularly with consistancy. I have noticed that by the end of the evening, with the bike cooled off, my times would be all over the place. Now I idle the bike between runs for a couple of minutes just to keep the temp up.
The announcer at the drag strip will love your bike! I have a wheel up launch almost everytime. Not much, just about 6 inches or so... but people really like to see you carry the tire.
You know the Austin Powers movies? I have always wanted to date someone like Allota Fagina... but I always seem to date her sister Sandy.

hey ,thanks for the info . What kind of jets like what # are you using and where do you have your needle at? those are some bad ass times. I'm probably going to be getting j&e hign compression pistons and stage 1 yosh cams for my bike. So this should help. i never really thought about short shifting it i would just take it to where it touches the red then shift.
hmmm.... I will have to check. I don't really remember. I had a local guy with a dyno do the set up, and I don't have the most confidence in the set up. I get some pinging and the bike seems to run hot now, but according to the exhaust gas analysis it should be fine.
I *think* it was 190 front 185 rear, 4th out on the needles, and 2 1/2 turns out. Not 100% on that though.
