Hi

Post by Jay_01 »

Evening,

I have just bought a 97 firestorm as the basis of my next project. Looked this site up and saw a wealth of info. :)

I will post a build thread once I have amassed the starting bits and bobs.

As it stands it cost me £800 with high level Scorpions, tatty bodywork, 28k miles and no service history. However the frame is straight, the paintwork will be Matt black very soon.

It will be a running project as I will be doing a daily 70 mile round commute on it for the time being. But a spare engine for tuning, fireblade forks 954 calipers and dymag wheels, nitron shock and a full system are on the cards and being sourced.

Anyone on here into fab work or Tig?

Cheers all, looking forward to contributing where I can.

Jay

Hello and welcome .
It's sounds like you a good plan .
Finding the bling bits is hard (at a good price) and don't often come up .
I've been looking for a full system for two years and they tend to be near a grand for a good used on unless your lucky and get it for a steel .

Welcome you have some grand ideas there. It's nice to have something in mind to aim for. It's just time consuming and expensive. Try to do things in some kind of logical order, like...don't paint the bike until all the engine work is done and it's mechanically sound.

No worries mate, it is not my first build, rather than spend 6k on something a few years old and the same as any other GSXR/R1/Ducati etc etc, I like to buy something dirt cheap but a good base, and throw money at choice parts instead. Everything will be transferable onto another bike or for sale in the end. Hence the spare engine for tuning works etc. :)

And yes new Dymag ultralites are on the list.

I have to say though, if this project is anything like my last, I expect it to take over a year before its where I want it to be... Time and funds as always are tricky to negotiate with the manager.(her indoors)
