Timing Light with Coil On Plug Stick Coil

Post by VTRDark »

Simple question:

How does one connect an inductive pick up on a Timing light with Coil on Plug Stick Coils? Usually the pick up would clamp around the HT lead but with stick coils there isn't one :confused

Some of the better quality/more advance Multimeter's would include an inductive pick up too for RPM so the same issue there. :confused

I no some garages have an extender so you would put this on the plug and the meter / timing light then the coil goes on after but i guess there wouldnt be that much room on the front cylinder to do that only a thought.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

At the Dymond they just put the pickup onto one of the low tension wires

Been through that already along with the R6 forum amongst many others Tony. It seams a lot of people are making an extender as has been mentioned, but thought there may be a particular adapter designed for the job. After searching loads I cant find anything and there seems to be no modern day timing light specifically designed for COP as most modern day engines have non adjustable timing.

Thought I would post as someone may have some other solution specifically designed for the job. Looks like timing lights may become a thing of the past. I seem to remember that Gunson made a light which had a tapered coiled wire on the end that went between the plug and lead instead of an inductive clamp. Mmm I shall have to make a lead up then as I can't find any other answers.

I wasn't sure if it would work on the low tension side Al, interesting, maybe on our bikes it does as there is higher voltage than norm and the pulse is there.

Cheers guys

Virt I'm fairly knowledgeable but I don't know it all and I'm far from genius.

Good find  bit pricey for what it is though. Like you say could make one out the old lead.
