Re: None std can hangers
I have these:

No good for standard cans, but work well with my ART or Motad Venoms. They say "high level" but they're not, raise the cans about 5cm.

I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

These are the ones Tracy had for sale the other day and will fit if you have link pipes that dont bolt through the rider foot peg brackets. Mine doMav617 wrote:I have these:

It may only be my opinion but it's mine!

Re: None std can hangers
i have these and they wobble with the cans on, the weight of the cans gradually pull the cans down and make them slightly out of alignment, bloody annoying!!Mav617 wrote:I have these:

Chop them brackets off the link pipes :-) you don't need themballs wrote:bugger my link pipes bolt at the footrests too
Re: None std can hangers
+1 my Art linkpipes have brackets, but they are fine when not connected.

Best to keep the mounting at the rearsets if you can for that extra stability, especially if you have heavy cans. With light links/cans or even cut downs you can get away with chopping it off.

Re: None std can hangers
Only my opinion I know, but I agree, you're better off keeping that mounting bracket on the link pipes. Once that is gone you relying only on the bracket on the cans to do all the work, that bracket can snap off (I've had it happen, although not on the Storm yet). If that did happen you would then have a can and link pipe that could turn either way (in towards the bike or away from it). Should the can bracket snap with the like pipe bracket doing it's job, the can wouldn't be able to move around very much, of course it still might fall off
but that could happen in either case.
Neil, you could cut the link pipe brackets off (as close to the pipe as possible), clean up the welds, then once you have found the new position have the bracket welded back on. One thing to consider, you may need your rear footrests for the MOT,
Chris.

Re: None std can hangers
my rearsets would only allow the link pipe mounting on the RHS, not the left, so I dont use it on either side because I like symmetry.
not had any problems yet
interestingly the Viper linkpipes I used to use didnt have any mounts on them and there was no sign that they had bee removed by a previous owner

Re: None std can hangers
Your right Al loads of cans/link pipes don't have the attachments and 8 times out of 10 it causes no problems except maybe a bit less rigidity. Maybe this adds to the problems a lot of folk have aligning both cans so they are exactly symmetrical
If you have them then make use of them, it''s all going to come down to the type of cans/link pipes and hangers used. I have no issues hanging a bit of Titanium from quality hangers but I wouldn't want to hang the heavy standard cans
I would also trust the standard Honda hangers a lot more than some cheapo chinky style hangers.

Re: None std can hangers
good point Carl, when I combined my "no link pipe mounting" with some light weight ally brackets rather than the std honda ones, they were so flexy it was scary.
in the garage you could push them about bit I thought it would be OK when riding. went for a ride with Lloydie and he was able to point out that they were "flapping around all over the place" when hitting bumps, especially in corners.
you do need some good structural rigidity from the brackets you mount the cans to or it will result in a fatigue failure somewhere
