Hi all.
Hi all.
Just joined so thought it a good idea to say hello.
The name is Geoff.
Live in East Yorkshire, UK
Its been a while since I have been on 2 wheels, last bike was a Gixxer 750 (slabside) which I 'gave' away in 2004 when I had no money and a baby.. same sob story as a lot people I know.
As money is now not such an issue I decided to get another bike. It was a toss up between a TL1000R and a VTR. As I am out of practice a 'widow maker' was likely to live up to its name in my hands.
Got a 98 reg in Red which is pretty good nick for not a lot of money and so far its a love story..
Since getting her home she has had braided hoses throughout, a full service, Brake calipers overhauled, new boots, LED modded rear light, front indicator replaced with flush mounted ones.
a Custom seat is on order, red piping and stitching.
Manual APE CCTs are on the bench waiting for a suitable time to fit them, on that note anyone know where I can get a replacement timing 'bolt' (big one), I don't think its coming out without a fight...

Welcome to the site buddy
you made a good call imo the TL1000R looks so fat and dated now, it was the TL1000S that had the 'widow maker' reputation with the rotary damper issue if i remember correctly
On the otherhand the TL1000S i think is a timeless classic looking bike, same goes for a storm the age then dont seem to look any older, where i see the TL1000R and VTR SP1 / 2 and think dam those look dated old hat now
the storm and tls had the flowing bubble lines

Re: Hi all.
Welcome geoff
the timing bolt is about £20 delivered I think from dave silvers spares. I did my manual cct about 2 weeks ago and the biggest job was that dam bolt. Had to take the whole cover off, heat the bolt up a bit and belt an oversized torx drive into it as it rounded the allen key off as soon as I looked at it. With the cover off I put a long reach socket on the inside of the case on the bolt so that when belting the torx drive into the bolt I didnt smash the case to pieces. Not saying this is the best way to do it but it worked for me. Good luck.

Re: Hi all.
A bit of heat, centre punch a few mm in from the outside edge and a hammer. That will get it off
