Noisy brakes
Took the Storm out for it's first shake down run since buying it more or less blind. The engine pulls very well but by crikey were the brakes squealing when coming to a halt, it sounded like a truck. Got back to the garage and whipped the pads out, lots of material left on them, even wear and slid nicely out of the calipers. Brushed them and cleaned them with cleaner, cleaned up the pins, greased them and put them back together. Cleaned the discs with cleaner and gave it a test, Buggers seem even louder now! The discs are in excellent condition with no juddering to suggest warping. Any ideas? I'll pop the calipers off at the weekend and give them a proper going over. Apart from that and waking the village up (shame), it was grrrreat!

Re: Noisy brakes
Probably best to give them a total strip down including pulling the pistons out, clean up and fresh fluids.
As for the squeal have you got the spring in them that sits behind the pads where the pins run through. Also makes sure that all the bobbins spin freely on the disk which is what makes them a floating disk
the bobbins are the round bits between the outer and inner disk. It's a bit of a faff of a job but put a nut and bolt through each one at a time and tighten up, then use a spanner or socket on the bolt to spin them around along with some cleaner. They often get clogged with dust which stops them spinning. You could also take a bit of wet n dry to both the brake pad surface to de-glaze them and it's also worth going over the shiny disk surface itself to get rid of the polished surface from years of pads rubbing against them.
