Sounds like you need to top it up and keep an eye on it as they do use oil

how much did you put in? top up so you can see oil in the glass. try to get an accurate measurement of how much you put in. monitor closely, say every 200 mile or weekly. build up an accurate picture of what is going on.

When I change mine I fill it to the top of the glass then let it run up to temp on the paddock stand and when it's hot I turn it off take it off the stand then let it settle over night .
And I always end up putting more in .

You would have to be seriously low for the light to come on. To the point where engine overheating and damage is going to start to occur. Check your oil level first but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a faulty switch/wire or light. Electrical!!!

3.9 litres with filter should get you in the sight window. After that top up as neccessary. Same thoughts as carl. Must be very low to bring light on.
Any other issues with engine?
My old engine was burning oil. I was topping up at 1 litre a week but never had oil light flicker.
i hope you have only underfilled it. Hit the mark & monitor

Hi Guys I take a quote from the late " Benny Hedges " or Martin as those who knew him ..
I had exactly the same problem as you ... well here is Martins solution in his own words ..

" this is caused by fitting a new oil filter dry.

when you fit a new filter, half fill it. or fill it full and whack it on quick with a rag underneath.

the light comes on cos theres air trapped in the filter. its a common thing on a lot of bikes - kwaks suffer from it a lot and it catches new owners out the first time they see it.

there's a procedure known as 'burping' (the baby)

all you do is start the engine from cold,
slightly crack the filter loose,
undo it until oil pisses out.
thats the air bled out.

then stop the engine, leave it 10 mins for the oil level to settle, check the level and top up if rqd. "

So there... that is what Martin said... solved.

If you can't see oil in the window, remove the clutch cover and clean it.

There's no point checking oil level with the engine running, as it's thrown all over the place by the revolving internals and you can't get a reading at all.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

The other thing to note Gabi is are you looking at it when the bike is on the side stand ?

Either get a helper to stand it upright or put a bit of wood under the stand so it stands upright.

As Tony said cant be checked when engine running & you should always check when engine is cold & the oil has settled.

Don't like the idea of a bit of wood at it's a fine balancing point sitting the bike upright and level, it could easily fall the other way and if you not on the right side (literally) of the bike you wont catch it.

When I'm on my own I sit on the floor in front of the oil window, put one hand on the frame where it runs along the top near the rad or that thinner bit of frame that runs down where you have the A shape to left of the rad. Then the other hand on the bulky bit of the frame lower down near the rear CCT. I can easily pull the bike over upright then and see the window at the same time. It also helps to pull the bike over a little more so you can see when the oil is getting close to the window and then when it's close hold the bike exactly level..... or use a torch.

If it's exceptionally bad then as Tony says, take the clutch cover off and clean it. It's not good not being able to accurately check you oil level, not good at all. Also if you have a fairing lower on then it may help to remove it first as these can sometimes get in the way of the window sometimes. Also they block a bit of light.
but i recently changed rectifier and triple checked all wiring
I was reffering to the wiring for the oil pressure switch. Which you will find on the left side of the bike under the generator above the fibrous part of the oil cooler line. Page 19-13 in the Honda workshop manual under lights/meters/switches

took lower fairing down and got the missus to hold the bike upright and added another 500 ml of oil but still no sign of it showing up.....thats 5l of oil gone in it !!!!
when the bike is slightly tilted on the right side the oil just starts to show under the limit....ordered another 5l for a change and i will take the clutch cover off and clean it before oil change....i wonder if my piston rings are worn...as i have no external oil leak

5L 8O that's whey too much don't go putting any more in or you WILL have problems. They take roughly 4.2l with an oil filter change. I expect it's because it overfilled that you can't see the level in the window. I don't understand how you can see something with the bike tilted  maybe what you seeing is it sloshing around whereas when upright you wont see anything but Black because it's too full. You've drowned it

Your best bet is to drain the oil and start again. The oil pressure must have gone a bit loopy hence the light coming on. Lets hope you haven't damaged anything like seals from overfilling and it has just burnt a bit of excess oil.

My views exactly. 5L 8O 8O 8O . At 4L precisely it will sit perfectly on the top markings with the bike held vertical. Once lowered onto the side stand you will see no oil in the window, this is normal.
