Stiff Knob - Choke

Post by thunderbolt »

Hi there,

The choke knob on my '03 model is quite stiff and hard (to pull on), in fact it's hard to push back in as well.

Is there any adjustment to lessen the tension or is it a remove and lubricate job.

It has always been stiff ever since I got it.

Thanx for any help offered.
Cheers
Don

It's probably in need of a lube. A squirt of WD should do it. If not cables off & lube the cables.
If you look at the knob itself just behind it is a rubber boot, peel this back & it reveals a knurled plastic ring. It's a locking ring which can work loose but it might be too tight try that but be careful they break quite easily. If it snaps then your plunger will be too loose & wont stay out !

Mac has already mentioned what is used to tension the choke pull. So if you find it's nothing to do with that, and end up checking the plungers in the carbs, go very carefully as those nuts that hold the plungers in are plastic and can break very easily!!!

I find the best way to do them is to remove the carbs first. Also pull the rubber elbowed boot of the end of the nut first which then allows them to spin more freely.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I will try those things. Hopefully will not have to fiddle with the plungers where they go in to the carbs.

I know about the plastic threaded thingo that holds the plungers into the carbs, my VX800 has the same setup.

You don't see many of those about anymore, vx800's. Nice bike as I remember them.
