Having sorted timing and cam chain tensioners I double checked everything tonight hoping to check the compression before stating to build my bike back up when I spotted this:

It's the engine mount just behind and above the front cylinder. Look pretty badly cracked to me, which I'm assuming means a new engine.
Gutted.
It was all going swimmingly, now it's terminal.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

No, just have it welded up, it will be fine.
I've cut these deliberately in the past, to release the mounting bolts, then re-welded- no problems at all.
You'll need t drop the engine out to get it done, though.
And stop panicking....

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

You've clearly spotted a common thread that runs through my other posts. Point taken, thanks.
I never even thought that it could be welded. Is it the sort of repair any competent welder can do or is it a specialist job?

Any aluminium welder will be able to do it.
Just clean the inner hole out afterwards. A good welder will cut a vee section out along the crack and ensure good penetration, but tbh this isn't a critical part for strength- there are other mounting pints.
It's most likely cracked for one of two reasons:
1. Someone's wellied the bejesus out of the mountings trying to get the seized bolt out, or
2. someone's tried to do the mounting adjuster up too tight and not understood the tightening sequence.
Haynes is ok for that info.
