Cbr900 fork conversion

Post by nt1980 »

Hi all after the bent forks from the other day i have now gone down the route on cbr900 forks.

Was doing rather well found my self a front end from a cbr900 and thought bonus so snapped it up

Once i got them back i have noticed a few things different from the track bike with conversion done

First thing bottom yoke has only one fixing point per fork (track bike has two and looks a lot sturdier)

Second thing the front wheel once apart has the speedo on it so must be from a bike 96? would this mean i would have to make the spacer or would a new models spacer match up still?

Third i was going to just overhaul them but would you surgest sticking some ohlins ktech etc spings in whilst apart or will the stock ones do the job fine

Think the bonus has gone down hill rather quick

Cbr900 fork conversion

The 1992-1993 had a speedo drive on the front wheel the 1994 on had a speedo sensor in the engine (sprocket cover I think )

Sounds like you have got the early 1992 blade front end .
Has it got compression damping on the lower fork but the caliper mounts ?
If you have the 1992 front end like the one I had the storms front wheel will fit with new spacers .
Make sure there is no cracks in the lower castings where the lower tubes fit into the caliper section .
Also the stations check them as they they get bent

Lower triple is upgraded from 98, it is Alu and with two mounting bolts. Likely more rigid, but a few mm wider, so there is need to do spacers under brake discs.

When I did my forks, I bought new Ohlins springs, and have no doubt about correct stiffnes and shape ...

I got the forks all in and i have used the clip ons from the 900 but as you guessed there is no room turning full right as the clutch hose is in the way then the clutch connection is there a way round this as i take it this would fail an mot?

Are the stanchions still 41mm on the blade forks? I bought a set of these for my USD 954 50mm front end and I've been really pleased with them. Have a look at the link -

I run these on my 954 usd forks, they fit really well but you will have to pay £20 or so duty as well as the postage.

They give good lock.

The other thing you can do, as I did, is to file/cut off the lockstops adn drill for 10mm cap head screws. Put the holes in the right place and you will have the lockstops in the slightly-moved but now correct locations.
No MOT failure that way, are trapped thumbs, either.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
