Removing broken mixture screw

Post by StuartWags »

I thought it was time to sort out the carbs. suspected that the something was not right on the front pot. When it came to reset the mixture screw, it is stuck solid (front). Got a spare parts set, also stuck solid.

Any advise on getting them out please.

I am running on my default spare, spare set that is my base line But was going to modify my other set with a 6 Sigma jet kit i have.

Tried the pin hammer and punch technique to no avail.

I think i will try a soak in paraffin, and some heat next. Then it if that don't, drill and stud extractor.

One body is already looking like a write off and i was hoping to get a good set out the two.

Assuming i do get them out, are replacements available and where?

I prefer plusgas lube ,really penetrates if left over night ,sounds daft but if you can make a little plastecene funnel/dam and fill with plus gas will shift it.

Just buy some off JackFlash on Superhawk. Best tuning part for the bike ever. They are as good as they look.

I have a scrap set of carbs due to using easy outs, they split the brass and then the ally surround.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Yeah, not ideal. I wouldn't try it again.

But it did work

When ever I see cheap carbs on eBay (£20ish) I pick them up .
I have 3 good sets and 4 good for parts .
As I like to try different settings (lift holes and stuff) it's easier just to swap the carbs than mess with them .
And sometimes I get lucky and get a jet kit too :-)
