rear brake caliper question

Post by agentpineapple »

today I fitted a rear caliper that I painted blue, once you've stopped laughing, here's my question, as you look at the rear caliper mounted on the bike, is the bleed nipple towards the front or the rear of the bike?
I think I know the answer, but I just want to make sure.
the reason being, I was kindly given the rear caliper by a forum member a year or two ago, I cleaned it, rubbed it down, resprayed it, then it sat in the cupboard for a long long time, today I finally fitted it, whilst re-connecting the the rear brake line, I noticed it was a bit fiddly to fit. I still managed to do it without to many problems.
then I looked at the gold caliper i'd just removed, and it dawned on me, that the bleed nipple and connection for the brake line are on opposite sides.............doh!!!!!!
I can only imagine I was given a non storm rear caliper, so I have to decide whether or not to keep it and test that it works properly, here's pic of it fitted on the bike....Image
i'm not liking the bend in the rear line, what do you guys think?

It's a blade caliper .
Just turn the brake line around and back to front and you might need to remove the lug of the master cylinder and you will also need to bleed it from the banjo bolt .
I have one fitted to mine or I did have .

I hope the paint is brake fluid proof coz when you bleed it through the banjo fluid is going to go all over that nice blue paint, what you need is a bleed nipple banjo bolt something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Banjo-Bolt-Bl ... 2a3cdfee80 you should then be bleed it without stripping the new paint
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R :D ,
Storm is now gone  .

I have rather heavily lacquered the paint, so fingers crossed, I have one of those bleed nipple banjo blots for the front brake lines, but even if I put one on the rear, it will still drip fluid all over the caliper..... :(

with a decent piece of tight fitting pipe and bottle to catch the fluid you should be able to bleed it without getting fluid every where, the one way /one man bleed valves from M&P and the like are also really good and are well worth $5 or so expence
