handle bar grips

Post by agentpineapple »

over the years I've used many different types of grips, currently i'm using foam grips, although they're reasonably comfy, they don't provide the level of feedback I would like.
also they're rather chunky, which takes getting used too, so I want to change. in the past I've had standard Honda grips, which I liked, I've also had these renthal Kevlar gripshttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renthal-Kevlar-Layer ... 1589116594
which got dirty very quickly, and looked awful, they also didn't fit that well.
i'm thinking of giving renthals another try, this time using there more classic design....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renthal-Origi ... 7677&rt=nc
what grips are you using and why?
whats you're favourite type of grips?
what do you recommend?

Renthal Road Race medium, good feel. Original Honda were good as well.

same comments from me.

the renthals have good feel, but will wear, so replace every 18months [although throttle side wears less than clutch as you have to have a more delicate touch on hat side]. yes the dark gray gets dirty faster hence I wish the med compound was the black colour like the Firm........... but use a hand cleaning wipe on them will bring them back to clean.

but the standard Honda ones are very good allrounders, feel good, last well and don't show the dirt............ I may go back to them in the end

just about to order the grey medium renthal grips, £7.55 delivered. I just want to make sure they're correct size 22mm...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renthal-Motor ... 5659c972dd
I've not checked to see how much Honda grips will cost, but if I know Honda they wont be cheap... :(

I just realized price for oem grips is not so bad, considering longevity :-)

so £20 for a pair of Std grips or £8 for renthals.............std will pay for its self in 2yrs... less if you use too many cleaning wipes

just realised that I am using the dual compound Renthals, so the grip is soft and light grey, the base is harder and black. might be why mine wear so fast

those renthals don't last that long, but the feel is good, I had the light coloured Kevlar ones, but between me and carls grubby hands, they got really dirty and they wouldn't clean up either. maybe i'll go for the hard or medium renthals, as the darker colour will suit my grubby mitts.
I've checked and I have one decent oem grip, so the other option would be to buy the other oem grip, by the time you add vat and delivery, it'll be the best part of £20 from D.S..... :(

my pet hate is the size and feel of heated grips  ........... that is why I have to use separate thin heating elements which are bonded to the bars as a stand alone mod, then you put the grips of your choice on top of them.

best invention ever, now I have race grips and heated grips

I use the " Dr Bike " heated grips, with wheel control on my storm.
Got em from JS at Oakmere Cheshire for a song really , fitted them easily and they
are not bulky .. I cannot believe how stupendous they are and I would
recommend them for any biker , they hardly use any amps from the battery as well

I've got the soft Renthal Road Race grips on mine - very comfy!!

Can't say I've noticed them wearing, however if you even look at them they get grubby.
I used to clean them every now and then, now i just leave them.
They match the rest of the bike!

Oxford "Sport" hot grips. For heated grips they are not much thicher than standard grips and have a similar texture to the Renthal grips. I have them on all my bikes.
