for sale, belly pan, Microns, brake pads, K-tech, HRC QAT

Post by budd »

OK some of you will know I'm selling my VTr after going all European and buying an Aprilia, well it's been advertised on here for a couple of weeks and so for no interest, so it'll be going on ebay, PH and Gumtree at the weekend, problem is I don't want to sell it with some of the parts I've fitted, basically it won't fetch amy more money with aftermarket parts so I've decided to return it pretty much to stock. This means I've a few bits and bobs for sale.

First we have the Rhencullen belly pan, Moriwaki style GRP finished in black with various stickers, complete with all the brackets etc, overall in good condition however close inspection reveals several scratches (won't buff out) and some gravel rash on the front tip. The damage isn’t really bad and it’s perfectly usable as is, but it would need refinishing to make it immaculate. £55

Next some tatty Micron end cans, complete with low level link pipes, straps, 3x clamps and 2 springs, these pipes are stamped ‘not for road use’ and need repacking so are pretty loud, when I took it for its MOT earlier in the year the tester said ‘those are a bit loud’ so I said ‘what?’ so he shouts ‘THOSE ARE A BIT LOUD’ so I shouts ‘WHAT’ it was quite funny, bike past its test BTW. Any way they are light, loud but could do with some TLC, with a re-pack and polish they’d be great. Gotta be worth £65

Also I have some SBS brake pads 622HS sintered fronts, 657LS sintered rears, fronts are 50% worn, rears are like new looking for £10 the lot.

a pair of K-Tec linear fork springs, .85kg virtually brand new in original box, suit riders of around 13 stone, see fork spring weight chart on the forum or go to K-Tecs website to check suitability. £50 these are an essential mod on the VTR they really transform the handling

Finally HRC quick action throttle tube part # 53141MT1000, virtually brand new, I fitted it to the bike then removed it pretty much straight away when I decided to sell the bike. These aren’t expensive new at around £20-25 delivered so I’m thinking £15 delivered is reasonable giving a worthwhile saving over RRP. I was quite impressed with this it may only be a throttle tube but it makes the delivery more snappy and improves drivability and throttle control.
I forgot to take a pics of throttle tube and springs but they are nothing to look at just a throttle tube and a pr of springs :D

Prices don't include delivery (except the QAT) I'll quote P&P on an idividual basis. any questions or for delivery costs PM me

microns and BP / QAT and pads all posted today

Re the Aprilia, I haven't really ridden it enough to be able to give much feedback, I only picked it up a week last sat, I had to wait till Mon to swop the ins over and then it rained !! I had the inlaws over last weekend and it's half term this week so I've got the kids by the time the wife gets home from work it's dark, it's all been quite frustrating the bike is sat there in the garage and I don't seem to be able to get to ride it.
I've probably done about 10 miles on it, up to the garage for fuel, round town a bit and along a dual carriageway and home (I did manage some posing outside my local).

What I will say even from this brief outing is that it is very different to the Storm, it feels very focused and tight, precise even, the riding position more racy the cycle parts are in a different league to the Honda, the brakes especially are immense and really highlight how poor the Storms are. But considering the price of the RVS when it was new (the R version was the thick end of £12000) so it should be better, the Honda was built to a price and saddled with budget parts, whereas Aprilia really pushed the boat out with RSV giving it the best money could, it’s said that Aprilia lost money on the Rs due to the cost of the trick Ohlins bits and OZ forged wheels.

In terms of outright pace it’s almost surprising to find that it’s not much different to the VTR, but TBH I haven’t really been in a position to give it the beans so maybe there’s more to come, but low /midrange is very similar to the Storm. Although I may have found the reason for this, reading through the folder of paperwork that came with it reveals a dyno sheet showing 121 BHP, but also mentions power commander settings, well I’ve looked all over the bike and there’s no PC so I think it has been removed and sold separately, this suggests it isn’t set up properly and possibly down on power. I’d guess it was setup on a dyno with the PC to match the K&N filter and Arrow exhaust it as fitted. There’s also the possibility it is actually restricted, apparently the Mille was supplied restricted and then de-restricted at its first service, (the derestriction involves simply snipping a certain wire on the ECU plug which switches the engine map) looking in the ECU reveals a OE chip, and the ECU multi plug shows the wire in question to have cut but re-joined so I’m not exactly sure what’s going on it’s definitely possible the bike is running in restricted mode. The good thing with the RSV is it’s very easy to sort this out, in fact the general consensus of opinion suggests modding the exhaust collector, removing the air box lid and sealing the bottom of the air box to the underside of the tank, (this effectively increases the air box size), finally a custom EPROM, this little lot gives around 130BHP and can be done for as little about £175, which is great value. If it proves that the bike is in restricted mode then releasing the available horses will make it very rapid.
I’ll post a more in depth comparison once I’ve ridden it same moew.

I know all about life getting in the way of things,I've been a bit like that recently. Sounds to me like you have reached first base with the bike and getting to know her. :biggrin Is it the Factory version then with all the Ohlins etc.

no it's the R version gen 1 RSV Mille, Aprilia in its wisdom Richard about with the model designations for the gen 2, in gen 1 the R is the tricked out version, gen 2 the R is the base model with the Factory being the range topper.
