ohlins forks ,for the man in your life
told you not to but oh no you knew better
Re: ohlins forks ,for the man in your life
I really don't understand how Ohlins can justify their prices, unless it the name they are selling. I wonder how much all the components etc cost to make a pair in the factory. A bit of metal here, a bit of plastic here, a bit anodizing here to make them look nice, and shove a great big spring through the middle

compare prices to WP
Re: ohlins forks ,for the man in your life
An underlying concept of marketing is charge what the market will bear..... they can charge that price as some (obviously) are willing to pay it......cybercarl wrote:I really don't understand how Ohlins can justify their prices, unless it the name they are selling. you could get standard SP forks and have a full K tech conversion for a fair bit less, the forks will be arguably better than these Ohlins then, but not have the Ohlins look, you could probably get them anodised to mimic Ohlins and still have a large wedge of change.
I think regardless of new cost these forks aren't worth as much as is asking, they're not new, yet the price is like new old stock, you could pick up a pair of Aprilia Ohlins and have them set up to suit whatever bike you have all in for about £600-700, Someone may well buy them at the asking price, good luck to the seller.. I love Ohlins stuff but could never warrant that much on 2nd hand forks, 2nd hand Ohlins shocks sell for about half the new price or less depending on condition, by that reckoning he should be asking £1150 ono and even then might not get a bite.. just my opinion ;)

nearly all top end products will be overpriced.
largely cos rich people have more money than sense.
like mik-str said they will charge what the market will support.
paying top dollar for something that will last a long time seems like a good strategy to me though.

They don't last any longer than cheaper forks- the seals wear out and pop if left unused for very long, and they'll bend if you run them into a car, tree or gravel trap. And they'll cost more to repair, too.lumpyv wrote:nearly all top end products will be overpriced.

Would I turn them down if they came my way?
Could I resist if the lottery win came up?
Nope, course not

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
