I've been working on my friends new vtr, i'm converting him to v-twins......

picked up a tatty silver storm for a fair price. but as we all know buying a cheap bike has it's pitfalls.....

it had loads of purple alloy tat, most of which had seized in place....

so I removed the purple screen, the purple alloy screen bolts had long since been chewed up, so they had to be cut out.
all for purple alloy mudguard bolts snapped in the fork lowers...

1 of the 4 fairing bolts snapped in the mounting bracket.
I haven't even attempted the engine bolts, why do people fit this sh1t without the correct grease or lube....

so I set about removing all the non standard decals, easy enough, and they weren't hiding anything nasty...

then I removed the front wheel, disc's, calipers (the pads are shagged),
disc's, calipers, m/c and spindles all went into the sonic cleaner.
then I fitted a refurbed starter motor, as the bike was struggling to start, even tho the battery was trying. the bike has a finned r/r and mcct's...

then I masked up the front of the bike and rubbed down and sprayed the forks. all the bolts got a clean, the the silver and purple front wheel was cleaned, rubbed down and sprayed Halfords silver.
I also cleaned the front of the engine and gave the headers a little bit of wet n dry.
then it was all put back together....
I also fitted a rubber boot to the main power cable, as it didn't have one. I greased under the throttle cable housing.
fitted an oem clear screen, removed the purple alloy filler cap bolts, replaced them with originals.
adjusted the sidestand as it was a tad wonky donkey.
fitted undamaged oem clutch and brake levers, removed the pyramid bellypan, ready to be sold. and replaced with an oem item.
then I turned my attention to the rear of the bike, removed the wheel, spindle, rear sprocket and carrier, one of the disc bolts was shagged and couldn't be removed, as the rear disc was on the wear limit, I decided to cut the disc off, which allowed me to square off the disc bolt and removed it with a adjustable wrench.
after recently selling two very good rear disc's, I find myself having to order one for my mate....

loads still to do, prep and spray the rear wheel, brake pads all round, remove the end cans and fit original end cans, rub down the rest of the headers.
fix the lhs switch gear, ask my mate what he wants to do about the purple pyramid undertray.
new fluid all round, order oem fairing decals, give it a service, then a fresh mot, figure out what to do about the lacquered over purple rear numberboards.
my mates in no rush and it will be a nice bike when it's finished...

here's a few pics of the progress so far.
before.....

after.....
