Hello - just got this years winter project!

Post by moodygaz »

Hi Guys
I've just got myself a 99 Firestorm. It's a bit battered and been stood a couple of years. but I aim to bring it back to it's former glory and probably then some!. It's got no plastics at the mo and I'll probably put a decent front and back end on it, USDs and braced swinger/190 rear (cos they look good!). so I'll need to know what fits easy, and I can do not so easy if its worth it!. Does anyone do a twin headlight kit/fairing for these or will a SP or Blade fairing fit? Oooooo I've got so many questions!!!. Luckily I've still got my TDM850 to ride this summer while sorting this one out!

powerbronze have a few twin headlight conversions left, they don't make them anymore, it's just the last of some old stock they've found, about £75 iirc.

they only have white and red left.

Heres a couple of photos after getting the bike delivered
Apparently its been stored for 10 years, the tax disk shows 2005!, no plastics up front or headlight and bracket. Speedo reads 20000 miles which ties in with the MOT cert.

This is what it looks like now Ive had a couple of hours on it. Ill soon have it down to the engine only, then ill start with the cleaning and replacing of various bits.

I'm in the process of sorting one that's been stood for 10 years, carbs were a problem so replaced with a good set, make sure you change the "time bombs" to manuals especially after such a long lay up.

as popkat says, change the cam chain tensioners to manual ones asap, after being stood for so long I wouldn't trust oem cct's
bespoke carbon do a few different fairing options, not cheap but good quality. as for usd forks most people go for the 929/954 oprion, which with the yokes and wheel make it a straight-ish swap. but you can make R1 forks or ktm forks fit.

Yes please!
I've got a spare set of R1s that are a bit pitted (was going to fit them to the TDM) but I'd rather stay with Honda parts for this.
