Anyone want a Penske

Post by popkat »

Does anyone want a Penske rear shock, it's currently at K-tech in pieces, it's going to be quite expensive to fix as needs a new body, So it would be rebuilt with the new body, new seals, re oiled, re gassed and it already has a new Spring.

What would you pay for it ?, new they are over £800, this one should be as good as new as all parts showing any wear will be replaced with new.

I don't know how to price it, I know how much it's going to cost to fix 8O

Sorry Carl delete if you want as no price, but feel free to leave it a while for feedback

bloody hard to value mate, the nearest thing that I've seen sell, was a freshly serviced ohlins and iirc that went for £450, but it took a while to sell. it's hard to get someone to part with big money as the bikes only worth between £1000 to £3000.
i'm trying to sell a as new as dammit hagon that cost me £380, but it ain't shifting at £200.... :(
I will say this tho, having a quality rear shock makes a massive difference, match it with a sorted front end and the firestorm becomes a great handling bike.
good luck with your sale malc.
I hope your keeping the storm?

K tech looked at the shock and couldn't find much wrong with it except the anodising has worn away on the inside of the body in the first part of the travel, they think this will cause it to be soft then suddenly go hard when it seals in the good part, they said the sideways movement must be normal as no bushings are worn, the Ohlins spring has a problem with one of the coils but it has a new Hyperco spring to put on anyway, Hyperco is standard Penske fitment.

I don't have the money to fix it but could find it temporarily if someone wants to buy the shock. Or I could get it back from K tech, it'll be in bits and sell it like that then someone can rebuild it with parts at home, they'd just have to get it re gassed.

£450 sounds about the right area to me, only a little more than a basic Nitron is new.

Am I keeping it ?, well can't afford anything else at the moment but although I said I'd not have another I keep finding myself looking at 07/08 model year RSV's, maybe it's just that the storm is peeing me off with the std shock as I can't feel confident or comfortable doing what I want to do with the bike.
