I've decided to put better brakes on my bike, so I've sold my old set-up, wavy discs, sp2 calipers and master, asv levers and so on, so today I try to remove them from the bike, the first issue is the lack of decent tools, what an utter pta it is without good tools.
the fork pinch bolts were on to tight, but I got them off, the calipers were easy, as was the brake mc and lever.
but the major issue is the front wheel spindle bolt, there's some play in the 22mm socket i'm using, which isn't helping, I assume it's a 22mm socket that I need, as a 21mm is just too small.
no matter what I do I can't get the axel bolt to budge, I've even used a scaffold pole on the end of a 1/2 ratchet for extra leverage, but because of the slight play in the socket it just won't undo.
I have a theory as to why this might be, when carl knocked me off a couple of months ago, the axel bolt did have a build up off what seemed like white powder stuck to one of it's sides, I took a screw driver to remove it, but i'm thinking the bolt/axel may have been damaged in the accident, maybe even slightly bent, hence not being able to undo it.
so first am I right in using a 22mm socket.
and secondly has anyone got any tips on how to undo the axel bolt.
should I be putting a screw driver threw through the other end of the axel and counter turning it it help release the bolt at the other end?
I seem to think that was needed when re-attaching the wheel, but it's been a while since I've removed a front wheel.
helpful suggestions welcome, mac you can do one.......
