My Storm is frying my battery

Post by Harry Growler »

Hi guys/girls,

need a bit of electrical advice please if I may, I'm not good with this subject.

I've had a couple of batteries go down in quick succession. I had the last one exchanged as faulty but then the replacement went as well, both within a month. I checked the charge rate today and it was 15.40v at 2000 revs. Assuming a 12v bike system is the same as a cars, that is too high and its frying the battery, to my limited knowledge. Question is, what do I do about it?

Cheers in advance,

Jamie

Have a look in the workshop section under regulator/rectifier.

Well known issue on our bikes is the stock rectifier mate.

Swap it out for a finned one and it will sort it.

Plenty threads about it mate.

Like others, I have fitted a MOSFET rectifier to my bike as well. If you're planning on keeping the bike I think it's worth doing. You can take a look here:-

I had some encouragement and help from Wicky

This could be helpful too, Cybercarl's fault finding info:-
