Rear wheel bearings.

Post by markg »

Just got my bike through the MOT,just before I took it I discovered the rear wheel bearing on the disc side had quite a bit of play in it(managed to bodge it so it passed  )
Since then I have changed the bearing and it was quite an easy job once I had decided to ignore the Haynes manual and done it my way
Just wondered if anyone else has had wheel bearing problems on a Firestorm as this is the first bike i've ever owned which has had this problem :?: ie is it a common problem on a Firestorm?
Also I only changed the one bearing as there was nothing wrong with the other side or the carrier bearing, wise move or not?

I had the same one go on mine the year before last after 25,000 miles(sods law, 3 days before long weekend to Scotland)
After much swearing and a bruised thumb finally got the bugger out.

Decided that as it was much easier to get the 2nd one out with the 1st removed I fitted both at the same time

Mine went at around 12k. I only replaced the knackered bearing too and its all been fine ever since. And that was about 10k miles ago.
