fuel/mileage question

Post by agentpineapple »

in the near future I will be having to cover 300 motorway miles, and looking at a map, it shows that at least two of the fuel stops to be 110miles apart. on the plus side, I have a 19ltr tank, on the minus side i'm a fat fecker built like a brick sh1thouse. so when i'm having lots of fun on the twisties, i'll get between 70 to 85 miles before the flashing fuel warning light comes on.
I plan on being boring and sitting in top gear at between 70 and 80mph. with my fingers crossed that i'll make it and the petrol stations will be open. I have a little hand held pump to transfer fuel, i'll be taking that just in case, I might also risk carrying a litre of petrol in my top box, risky yes, but it might get me out of trouble.
any advice is welcomed, as well as shite loads of piss taking......yes mac i'm looking in your direction......

Seriously if you can't get 110 miles to a tank from a 19lt tank something is seriously wrong !

You'll be fine...as long as the stations are open that is...

I got near 150 miles from my F2, have you put more weight on  I think even riding hard I could still get 100 miles before the light and then I'm sure it went further with the light on than with a 16 ltr tank

I usually get 120 miles to the low fuel light on my 16L tank, with 3L to spare, even when riding in a brisk and spirited manner. Maybe I'm very aerodynamic?

It wouldn't be funny if the petrol station was closed, you might have to camp out. What container have you got for carrying spare fuel. I wouldn't worry about carrying a bit extra, your already carrying some in the tank.

I hear where your coming from AP, I too was getting crap mpg & it was costing me a fortune just to run around normally.

I worked out that the cost of a screwing up set of £70 DJ needles V's £30 @ the time to fill it up 8O & decided to file down my needles to lean out the mid range cruising revs.

It's worked for me, I was getting 120 miles till red light. Now I am getting 175 miles till the red light :D

Not too sure if I've lost a little power at 3000-5000 rpm (where I've worked out where it actually is on the needle) but that's cruising area/carriage way revs, but the extra tank mileage is worth it for me anyway

Only the Dyno will tell

I know the carbs need tweaking, they aren't adjusted for the akra system, they were ok for the two brothers system tho, bike still runs strong, just the fuel economy isn't so good. when i'm riding for fun I don't care, and maybe i'm worrying for nothing, but I've had the odd moment of running out of fuel with previous bikes, so now when the last bar is showing, i'm seriously looking out for a petrol station, but chances are I still have another 30 miles left in the tank. i'm sure i'll be fine. but I still might carry a small amount in the topbox hahaha
