Can anyone confirm the hole and tap sizes needed to repair an M4 thread? From what I can find the hole goes out to 4.1mm and is tapped with M5.
I could buy a kit but only need one helicoil.

Just Google it, Nick.
I keep a drill size/tap size chart in my gge but am away from home.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: M4 thread repair
if your going up size to 5mm depending on thread pitch your tapping for
in aluminum I would M5x.80 I would go 4.20mm, M5x.90 = 4.10mm, M5x1.0=4.00mm tap sizes.
If you are installing a thread repair coil like from Helicoil you would drill to 4.2mm, use the supplied oversize Helicoil tap, and then insert the new M4x.70 thread insert.
If you're using a solid bushing type thread repair insert like a timesert then you drill to .166 or a #19 drill and use the timesert counterbore and insert tool

Re: M4 thread repair
Cheers all.
I'd searched a bit for sizes before posting but did a bit more, following Tony's advice, and found Helicoils spec PDF. Lists all the specs, hole sizes and tap sizes.
I couldn't find everything I needed locally, and couldn't be arsed to buy online from multiple sellers, so ended up buying a kit. Anyone who wants to borrow it after I'm finished is welcome. Although it's actually M5 I needed - measure twice...
