Highly likely my engine is knackered

Post by freeridenick »

I've got a spare engine so what's the easiest option: drop the engine and replace or buy a new frame and build off that?

The only reason I'm considering a frame is this is a chance not to have a Q-plate bike and might be worth it if it's not much extra work.

Er...??? Why would it be a Q plate...Unless your bike is already a Q plate, changing the engine won't affect the Reg...The frame carries the Reg not the engine...

I have a frame 'P' reg V5 in my name on SORN...Make me an offer...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

It all depends on that front engine mount bolt !
It can be a nightmare to remove or it can be easy .
I suggest you give it a try first ,remember heat is your friend ,burn bitch burn

Cheers. I'll think about the frames while trying to move that bolt.

you could have said due to differential, heat and metal expansion rates but NO, "burn bitch burn!!!" classic lloydie :D

Spare engine has definitely had a CCT failure, I can see where one of the exhaust valves has hit the piston. Looks like the head has been repaired or replaced but the piston and very top of the bore is covered in black gunk. I'm assuming this is burnt oil from the CCT failure but it's making me nervous that the there other issues.

So I'm looking at alternative options and have come across what looks like a very clean track bike at a price that's worth a punt. Anyone heard of a racer/ex-racer from Spalding called Nick Cox? I'm trying to get a picture of the bike's history.
