Clutch not disengaging fully

After removing the front sprocket cover to give it a clean (was massively overdue...), I reinstalled everything back to how it was and have since noticed the clutch does not disengage fully.

After taking out the slave cylinder to check everything was okay, I flushed the fluid and bled the system 3 separate times to rule out any issues and each time, was 100% certain there is no air in the system, yet the issue remained.

The clutch does not disengage fully, and I would estimate there is about 15% of the clutch still being engaged, which is enough for the clutch to slip when using the throttle, and making going from a stand still to moving in first gear difficult.


The interesting part is that when I loosen off the 3 bolts on the slave cylinder to a little bit more than finger tight, everything goes back to working fine again.

What's going on?

Just a hint...but next time you have the cover off, remove the clutch leaver first. With it still in place it puts a little pressure on the slave & can draw air in.

When you had it all apart did you clean the push rod ?

They can be a bastid to bleed, go back & keep trying it can take some time to get it working right. My prefered method is to push the fluid in & up from the slave end with a syringe. Then bleed as per norm from the top. You may also find bleeding the M/C may help...Pumpm & hold the leave & crack the banjo at the top...use plenty of rags can be messy...

As above. my mate had the same problem and as much air as we thought it had outa it,it just needed more bleeding in the end and it came good.

Yep it's very much likely still got some air still in the system. Did you put the clutch pushrod back in the right way around with the hardened metal at the clutch end.

Bike power wheelies in first with no issues and high RPM throttle roll ons seem fine too. Now all that's left is my paranoia thinking the clutch is still slipping!!
