Cam chain tensioner advice please
Hi all,
I am getting a rattle noise which all evidence points to tensioner. I have read tons of threads and would just would like some conclusive answers if at all possible.
1, Can it be repaired?
2, Is there a new revision of the tensioners that is stronger?
3, Is a manual tensioner a permanent solution?
Thank you

1, Can it be repaired?
No, the internal spring is broken and is impossible to find an equivalent
2, Is there a new revision of the tensioners that is stronger?
NO honda still make the same design
3, Is a manual tensioner a permanent solution?
YES, but the tension must be checked

The only advice to give is replace the Honda CCTs with manuals or the stopper mod as soon as you can. I managed to have them go twice and survived, but you may not be so lucky. On advice I found this place and haven't had to worry ever since

Change them to manual asap. If you follow the step by step guide on this site you won't go wrong. Help and advice is readily available from men that know firestorms inside out.

Krieger, APE, Bazza and Ade Whitmarsh's CCT's > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720The VTR is a very reliable bike with very few issues. The two biggest concerns if not already dealt with are the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's) and the Regulator Rectifier (R/R) which should take priority in maintenance/upgrades.

Wow... thank you for the quick responses. I am now convinced an MCCT is what I need.
Did a quick search on fleabay and found these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... 5573.m1684
I did read somewhere that some manual tensioners have leaking issues through the lock nut, due to the round seal unable to make the threaded part air/oil tight. Therefore I swaying towards the tensioner at the top of the list above, it has some sort of internal seal. Anyone fitted one of these? Feedback?

Re: Cam chain tensioner advice please
You will need two,one for each cylinder. May as well do both while you got the bike apart. That makes those ones expensive when you can use a sealer.

Re: Cam chain tensioner advice please
As per the MCCT installation instructions > Just a dab of silcone on the threads on the tensioner where it enters in the tensioner body will prevent any oil leaks and help, along with the lock nut, to stop it unwinding.

Well done for taking the plunge mate, manuals will give you peace of mind and only need occasional checking.
Just make sure you follow the installation guide
