First time superchicken owner here. Bike runs great, the clutch works very well when it wants to. My problem arises every few days after riding a while. The clutch lever usually has a tad bit of freeplay. However at other times the clutch lever will remain tight at full release an the bike will slip tremendously and the system will hold pressure until bled off. Then the clutch will act normally for a while. There is no slave piston bind. Just holding fluid pressure. I've flushed and filled the system with new fluid but have not disassembled anything(mc/SC). Should I suspect a dirty mc? BTW the old fluid looked akin to hot chocolate. Thank you for any help.
I think cleaning the master cylinder out carefully would be the best starting point. I know in brake MC's there is a tiny relief port that allows excess pressure back out of the system which when blocked causes brakes to lock on.
And you really don't want fluid that looks like Hot Chocolate:
Ive had exp with collapsed automotive brake lines holding pressure at the caliper but since this entire system is remaining pressurized I've came to the same conclusion. I've still got some settled hot chocolate in my Mc.
id bite the bullet, take the whole clutch system of,blow it out with an airline and start from zero again.at least that was you know for sure the parts your dealing with are clean...
not a great help but im having clutch woes with one of mine which may be related. cant for the love of god get neutral after i fitted new plates so maybe im in your boat aswell..
Strip down clutch hydraulic system paying attention to clutch master & slave seals / and bore (for grit ingestion) and change fluid for premium quality fluid.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
The WHOLE system needs service, Master to slave.
Plan on oil and Hyd fluid seal for slave, and full kit for Master....
I see you have plastic reservoirs, so don't forget to order the O rings that goes between the res and MC, its not part of the main kit. Look hard at the clutch res, if you see age/stress cracking in the res, consider replacing it as well. And the paper gasket at the slave to cover that almost always rips
Many a home wrench have had issues bleeding the clutch system on the VTR after its been apart..not unknown to have to use a syringe to push fluid backwards from the slave to the MC to clear a bubble..

I'm pretty sure the problem is in the Clutch Master Cylinder. EASY FIX! The same thing happened to me. I kept bleeding the clutch system, it would work for a dozen applications and then slip. The indication is that all the clutch slack would go away. If you remove the Master from the bars then remove the Plastic reservoir. Look under the res and there are two orifices. One is impossibly small, not even the size of a pin. It gets clogged and the system can't get slack. I could not get the small hole clean with traditional cleaners and did not have a small enough bit to drill. I took the master completely apart and boiled just the body in plain water for 15 min. While still wet, compressed air shot the goop out of both holes. I wish I took pictures. The hole is so small I was not even certain it was there. If all the parts in the master and slave are installed correctly, this is the most likely issue.
