Methanol injection
Methanol injection
While Ive been waiting on new pistons I've been working on installing methanol/water injection on the vtr.
Y'all will call me crazy for putting ot on a naturally aspirated engine.. but there seems to be alot of pros, even on a n/a engine
It will run cooler
Adds a couple hp and a little torque
Ability to run slightly more spark advance
Shiny insides
87 octane fuel with high compression
I figure it will pay for itself ($300). Premium gas in my neck of the woods is $1.30 - $1.40/litre while regular is $1.10. My calculations say around 80 fill ups should pay for it.
Ill post a few pics of what I have done so far tomorrow.
Anyone else do anything like this? What do you guys think?

Re: Methanol injection
Interesting project. Not sure how you plan to inject it but the stuff is highly corrosive to the fuel system...

Re: Methanol injection
I put the air filter in the lid of my airbox to make room.. pretty sure i saw you did the same thing somewhere on here?? Then installed a injector over each velocity stack.
I will probably just inject water, and use washer fluid when it gets colder outside.
I was worried about the corrosion as well, so I googled it. Ive read it doesn't seem to cause problems going through carbs

Re: Methanol injection
you saw correctly, am on my 3rd edition of the filter-in-lid (actually, 3.2 as I just did another revision over the winter). works very well once you get it jetted...

Re: Methanol injection
Nice! I just covered over the snorkel and cut a square in the lid that the filter fits in.. I can't understand what they were thinking with the oem design...seems the filter was awfully close the the stacks, but maybe its a bit quieter..
Re: Methanol injection
An interesting topic
I'd look forward to hearing how it all goes
Chris.

Re: Methanol injection
Heres what I have so far. Thats a 1 gallon tank fit into the tail, I had to put the pump in the battery box, and a lithium battery fits under it. The injection pump is controlled by a adjustable vaccum switch and relay.

Thanks for posting up the photo's, you've been rather busy

Re: Methanol injection
Interesting plumbing (cue Jamie) - can't wait to see dyno chart on what it churns out.

Re: Methanol injection
Haha i used copper pipe for the brackets if that's what you mean by interesting plumbing
Just trying to use what I have around here
