Boxing day ride out - parbold
Boxing day ride out - parbold
A great short bimble this morning with my brother in law(kawasaki z1000sx) , graham taxi driver on his dark blue mettalic storm and me on my dark blue storm.
At the venue we met up with chrisc on his yellow storm and there was also another yellow storm, so 4 in total!!!
I had a real 'moment' on the ride to the venue - slowing down for a roundabout, and the engine cut out. Pulled clutch in , then let it out to try and bump it - used to in line fours!!!!
Hadnt bargained for the v twin compression !!!!
Locked out rear wheel and had a real slide!!! Nearly flipped me off but survived!!!
Then when i arrived home temp gauge was climbing towards red , but it looked fan hadnt kicked in, so there was some fluid collecting in belly pan, probably from reservoir overflow, but i'll check it out next week.
I still love it though, but still getting used to a v twin after years on a 4

As ever was good to meet up with you fellas, almost needed the knitted helmet as was nearly taken out by mad octogenarian riding a rusty flat tanker with a dubious back tyre ... but hey what a good meeting....cheers ChrisC

If the fan isn't kicking in check the fuse box under the seat, one of them is for the fan

Re: Boxing day ride out - parbold
I think the panic is over!!!
When i got back from the boxing day run it seemed to be running a bit hot and there looked to be some coolant in the belly pan. I wasnt sure if the fan was kicking in either.
Ive got it on the bikelift today and checked the coolant level in the right hand rad and also the expansion bottle and both are fine. Also checked the operation of the fan by shorting it out and that is fine.
I have then taken the belly pan and fairing off and left it running so it got up to temp and when needle gets between 1/2 and 3/4 the fan cuts in as it should. No leakage anywhere so i think all is good - i suspect i may have overfilled the expansion bottle on the rebuild.
I'll run it up again tomorrow and recheck it
I also checked the age of the tyres that it came with - rear 98!!!! Ie 20 years old and the front is 10 ie 8 years old, better but its going to be changed!!!
