Cleanliness is your friend when plating. I did some when I restored my GT250 and my sons FS1e.

You can put together a DIY set up for pennies, get some bits of zinc from a roofer, and sugar and epsom salts, and I use either a battery or battery charger. I use an acid with drain cleaner, and a caustic neutralising bath after, cleanliness is very important, enen just touching parts with your hand.
