Honda oil cooler pipes

Hello all, and thanks for inviting onto your forum.
I've been a Biker for many years, currently running a VFR800fi, some 22 years old and like all bikes, in particular Honda's need a little TLC now and again. Like the VFR the VTR uses chrome plated carbon steel oil cooler pipes, you might ask yourself why would Honda go to the trouble of building fantastic bikes then finish off using carbon steel in, probably the most vulnerable area on the bike, where from day one it catches all the muck from the road surface!
I have been making replica Stainless Steel pipes now for the VFR, mainly friends and anyone else who asks, I haven't as yet made any for the VTR, but they are very similar to the VFR and would be willing make providing we have a pattern to work to.
Many thanks for reading my first chat, and look forward to hearing from you.
Ed.

welcome, and that's a great offer as quite a few people are looking for a solution to the rusty pipes.

can you share some photos of the ones you have made for the VFR community?

I am sure somebody will have a spare that can be used as a pattern

I have some spare Oil cooler pipes.

I take it for customers you need a set to use the OEM fittings top & bottom.

The VTR pipes have a flexi braided bit at the bottom end. How do you deal with that ?

These pipes I made some months ago, showing laser cut flanges welded to the tubes, the other end shows oil resistant flexible rubber tube held with stainless clips, I've since purchased a crimping machine with stainless crimps, these are much better, although the clips worked perfectly well.

The second photo shows crimped pipes compared to the old ones, ready for the engine sump fittings.

Very interesting.

How does the ID of the stainless steel pipe compare to the original pipes :?:

Material sizes used to make the Pipes is identical that used by Honda.
Only difference is Stainless steel as opposed to chrome plated carbon steel that Honda continue to use.
I'm only intending making small batches, so it will be first come first served, saying that if you are prepared to wait a little while I will get round to making more.
Its more of a enjoyable passion of mine to make these sorts of things, I've had guys I ride with calling in for all sorts of welding and fabrication jobs over the years, one in particular is fascinated watching the TIG welding being carried out, it takes all sorts

Happy days.

Hope this helps.

I'm guessing that you need the old set to harvest the fittings from? For the proper price, would you ship to the US?
