Temporary Demotion...

Post by VTRgirl »

Well, my beautiful yellow babe has gone into rehab. I don't know how long we'll be apart. I want her to be everything she can be when she comes home &... sniff... that will take as long as it will. I told my wonderful friend & wholistic motorcycle therapist to give her everything, as though she were his own.

It was a sad moment, the parting of bike & rider.

In the meantime, said therapist has kindly leant me his own trusty steed. A rather old, but cherished, CBR600. It looks strange in my garage, somewhat akin to a hostage. Oh well, I'll just have to wring it's neck. Sure beats walking!

Amongst a myriad of other things, plan to be going down the Kawasaki CCT road. Have read the comments elsewhere, but if any negatives have come to light since then, make sure you let me know!

How wonderful are Firestorm riders!!! Someone I met through this site has more than kindly leant me their VTR for the duration! Okay, so it's not yellow, but I still have a Storm to ride! :D :D :D :D

Chris, I presume you've checked out the link, so won't go into the CCT thing. Just going to look into adapting the Kawasaki ones for the Storm.

Yes I did have a look at the link thanks VTRgirl, which kicked started my memory back into gear about the work Bluesman did with the Kawasaki ones

Sorry for late reply - was in France on my "regular" 3500 km rideout :)
Can't resist to show off - for first time in my life I took 3 curves/corners at 180 kmph!!! It was scary but Storm been brilliant... 8)

Yes, I did that thing with Kawasaki CCT. I ran Kawasaki CCT for 3000 km with no issues, now I am giving a try to "updated" Honda stock CCTs, but can confirm - Kawasaki ZZR1100 CCT worked just perfecly fine...

I bought Kawasaki ZZR1100 CCT, milled (well, drilled and filed) fixation holes to match Storm CCTs fixation place and that's it. It just works.
I was a bit unhappy about lenght of that CCT, meaning that when pushrod extends and fully tightening camchain there is only around 4-5 mm of movement left, and as I do not know expected chain stretch and wear I do not know how much "spare" mvement required.
But it is very easy to fix - get welder to weld on a litle bit of molten metal on end of pushrod...
Another drawback is price of Kawasaki CCTs. It is 40 Euros more per CCT than Honda ones! b8stard...
Some details here, but to summarise - Kawasaki ZZR1100 using no-go-back CCTs with linear ratchet, whch can extend but can not back off:
