Which ones???

Post by VTRgirl »

Gimme all the advice you can! I'm finally ready to buy some pipes. Which ones should I get???

The only thing I am sure of, is that I want stainless, not carbon fibre.

Have a look in the gallery and see if anything catches your eye, there are so many to choose from, and not all available in Oz.

Micron, Blue Flame, Quill, Two Bros, StainTube(spelling), Arrow, Akrapovic, Remus, Termigonni, and a load more all make cans for the storm at high and low level, it just depends on your budget and what you like the look of.

i just bought a set of Blue Flame twin spout hi level cans, will post some pics when i get them fitted at the end of next week.

VTRgirl I'd recommend Scorpion's myself (I doubt if you can get them in Aus) basically because that's what I have, (high-level oval stainless) the bike did not need re-jetting, (kept my eye on spark plugs colour) the torque comes come in lower down in the rev's, the rev's pick up quicker, it feels like it has unleashed a few more brake horse power and IMO they sound awesome (they are race can's) and yes I did tell my insurance company. Also Scorpion can's do not need repacking, like some others. Probably a complete waste of time me telling you this

I would imagine someone over your way will be more of a help :!:

Agree with Sirch, I got hi-level Scorpions (w/removable baffles). They don' need re-jetting but it made a difference when I had mine done 'specially with throttle response. Oh, and they sound good too
.... no more bike, divorce sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It SOOO depends what you want out of a set of cans, there's so many variables

High or low level (ground clearance)
Weight saving (titanium or carbon fibre)
Shininess (polished alloy)
Bling (moriwaki rainbow titanium)
Can shape (round, oval, teardrop)
Colour
Price
Performance
etc etc etc

I went for high level Remus' coz they're good quality and I liked the way they weren't really HIGH level compared to a lot of high levels
Got titanium but only coz the dealer didn't have any alloy ones in stock and let me have the tit ones for the same price

And don't bolt them on expecting to make the bike better instantly, thay're only a part of the improvement and you'll be wanting to get the 'air in' side sorted too to really unleash the beast

So make your list of wants and then find a make that fits the bill

Now I'm more confused than ever... :?

I get the impression most of them are reasonably similar, although I believe the rich just head straight for the Akrapovic. A few of you have recommended the Scorpions, but I haven't heard of those, so expect they're not available in Australia, as Chris suggested. I guess I'll just ask around locally & see what dealers have good reputations here.

Thanks all, for the advice!

Hi VTR girl,

I've got Vance and Hines SS2 cans on mine and they sound great. Loud and throaty and people definately hear you coming :D. Can't even hear a standard VTR when you are next to one :D I believe they come as either carbon fibre or stainless.

have a huge one

:D Ta Chris. It was a bit boring, really. No other bids, and a friend had set up one of those automatic bid things at his place under his name for me. So I pretty much sat here on my lonesome in front of my screen watching the countdown. :?

Well, I've spoken to the guy selling & he's entirely unimpressed that they went for the opening bid. He didn't think to put a reserve on them & even accidentially included the wrong postage! AUS$15 for express post anywhere in Oz. I have no idea what Microns are like (apart from the pic on ebay), but I got them for a pretty good price, so am not complaining. Hope to have them on by the end of the week!

I had Microns on my Fazer and they seemed well made, unlike my Blue Flame Evos. I have had THREE (one replaced due to accident damage) which have all failed at the same place (as the pipe enters the silencer) due to cr*p design/manufacturing. Don't suppose they'll accept any liability though.
