dont know about that one? but one of my mates had a problem not too distant from that and he had a load of crap in the side stand switch cuasing an intermitant fualt.
give it a clean and see if it helps, sorry.
4 cyl = 2ltr , 2 cyl = 1ltr it's all relative.

Thats what i was thinking too. Seems the only reason ? Perhaps the spring has lost its tension causing it to bounce and make/ break the circuit ?

A blockage in the slow/idle jet can give the same symptoms.
If the air jet has muck in it it runs too rich and fowls the plug but when giving the bike some stick it runs off the main jet and the spark is stonger and burns the muck back off the plugs.
Tell em to check the carbs too Kaz

Stabbing in the dark really without seeing bike etc, but here goes anyway, all the other suggestions were good, something which hasn't been mentioned is what about spark plugs breaking down or air filter needs changing. If it was spark plugs I wouldn't have thought it would tick over when standing still after the engine has had time to warm up. The air filter if it is really restricting air flow (needs changing) will cause the engine to run rich and make it cut out, it would be like leaving the choke on once the engine is warm.
