Race Cans.
Race Cans.
Does anybody know if having race cans on your bike is an endorsable offence??? Do you just get a fixed penalty or do you get points as well????

Worse case could be bike impounded. But not very likely at all.
If you do get nicked a fine and no points. I have known plod to issue a "rectification notice" for a race can or small plate.
A rectification notice gives you a set number of days to rectify the "fault"
To prove the fault has been fixed you have to get the rectification notice signed at an MOT station then produce it at the Police station

speaking in terms of the plate
I recently put a private plate on the car, with non conforming font, got stopped by the plod, £30 fine and no points
Best bit was she said that it was because of the speed cameras not being able to read the font, though it would have been able to read mine!
So my question was, the problem is.........?????
Imagine it would be the same for a exhaust

SMALL PLATE
Hi i was stopped last year leaving sherburn cafe on a boiling hot sunny sunday me and the wife in full leathers t5 pulled me he said
"my car has $20,000 pounds worth of camera equipment on board and i cant read your plate and your exhausts are a bit loud he also said we could be a couple of terrorists for all he knows i got $30 pound fine no points"
my exhausts are stamped and legal (well when the baffles are in)
he also said that exhaust companies were stamping exhausts legal when there not
i dont know of any who do this do you ?
He clearly didnt know much about exhausts and was just making excuses to get the browny points
if you have ever been to sherburn or go regular as i do then you know what its like with the police especially in summer
dont get me wrong i have nothing against them as i know a few my brother in law included who is great but what about loud exhausts, small plates on cars, blacked in windows boom boxes ect or is it just north yorkshire police as i know other forces are abit more forgiving!
sorry if i am moaning what experiences has everyone else had on the matter?

i have a right illegal pipe set on mine been stopped a couple of times ( sorry officer didnt relize i was goin that fast) but only one has ever remarked on the noise and he said " at least we heard you"
think you'll find it depends on
1. is he having a good day
2. did he get some last night
3. how nice you are to him

aye Alan when you got fined was it for the plate or the can's or even both?
coz if he didnt measure the spaceing and the size of the letter's he has actually made a bad stop and fineing you is a no no.
and if the cans were involved did he have a decimeter to measure the sound?
unless your plate was one of these thats about an inch high you could have had him on both thes points.
part time fekin ministry wanna be tester

4 cyl = 2ltr , 2 cyl = 1ltr it's all relative.
CANS/PLATE
Hi
it was for the plate, its a small plate but not as small as some. He did not have a clue about the exhausts, the baffles wasnt in, he asked me "if i had put them on" when i said "yes" he came out with "some companies are just stamping them and there not legal" and no he didnt measure anything it wasnt just me they was stopping it was a number of us (making there preasence known i suppose).

Just had my bike mot and put my std cans on. I work delivering parts to the motor trade and it was a garage i know, well good lads and as he tested my bike he said as long as they are not stamped up " not for road use " then race cans are ok. My devils are back on he said bike sounds alot better
. But if they pass a mot how can plod do you now for loud cans

The force is strong in this one

I think its now down to the discretion of the tester i will find out as i do go to squires cafe and there is a lot of plod on them warm summer nights and sundays
But you would not be droping them in it the mot was done to the letter of the law thats how it is there is no check now for a bs stamp like there was befor.guess it would just depend on telling plod that they passed an MOT with them on, may just drop the testing station in it

i personally will be taking the bike for its test next year in the van, that way he can't tell me the cans are too loud
tho' to be fair, it's less than an hour to change the cans and put the standards back on

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
