to cut a long story short ,im going to take it off.
is it just a case of traceing the wires back and disconnecting the alarm ,then rejoining the loom???
or is it a garage job only???

I posted on my Meta alarm the other week (with as many replies
).
I "unwired" it too as it had just reached the end of its life (9 years) and would remobilise, if that is a word. I have decided not to bother with another alarm, but it depends where you keep your pride and joy I guess.

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

If it's the same as mine (Datatool System 3), you've probably got hacked-off with it arming itself when you you're at the petrol station unless you leave the ignition on; or that evertime someone breathes on it, or you go to wash it, it 'twirps' at you before giving you the Full Monty.
Also, every time I armed or disarmed it you could here the beeps from it 3 streets away.
This was really hacking me off. I let a guy I know from my local Norton Club have a look. He went through the manual, then he just connected/isolated (can't remember which) the yellow wire which turned off the Movement Detector.
This means that the alarm sets itself after 30 seconds put doesn't enable the movement detector. It still, however, has the immobiliser enabled, so that's OK for me. You can enable the Movement Detector by pressing the round fob button once before the 30 seconds if you really want to (but at least I now have the choice).
He also grounded the white wire which meant that it now arms/disarms silently.
So all in all, a bit of a result.

It's all a big joke until you have somebody's eye out...
