Does anyone know which gear cog the speed sensor sits over?

As far as I know, no-one does.
It's a Japanese-born HRC staff only secret.
Have you tried taking it out, poking a finger in and counting the number of teeth as they go round on tickover?
Time it for exactly a minute and divide by 1200 or whatever your RPM is, then divide that result by Pi which should tell you the number of teeth per revolution.
Then just look it up in Haynes.
Simples!

I was looking for this answer too but could not find it.
