Just seen this - could I come along just to watch how things are done please - will be in my cage as my rear shocker is back with WP for a new spring, so no bike at present, but would like to fit new CCT's so seeing how this is done would be great - and meeting a few of you along the way.

If you could pm me details - thanks (mobile number would be useful also, just in case the dartford tube is full of queues (as usual)) - only coming across from South Essex

I won't be able to make this weekend as weather is looking good and me and missus are heading off camping on the bike for a few days. A shame but nothing needs urgently doing on my bike anyway... Will be interested to hear how it goes and any future workshop days tho..

Have lost the plot slightly, it would seem that me and Styler are waiting for manuals from the same U.S online shop and neither of us have them yet. Does this mean there will be no manuals to do on Saturday?

Doesn't appear so at the moment, but we'll see who else joins in. Looking like four to six people at the moment.

So far we have one bike with a mystery misfire, (won't rev past 6000), carb balances, steering head adjustment, compression testing and valve clearances.If anyone's interested in testing and setting the TPS I can do that too if there's time.

But as I have manuals in mine I can demonstrate the fitting process including timing and setting the tension, once you've seen it done it's not that hard to do it yourself.

On Sunday I'm stripping a head off for a forum member who has probably bent the valves; we have a broken exhaust stud to deal with as well. I'll take a camera and post the process if he's ok with that.

It's at his house so I won't extend an invitation, hopefully it's something most people won't need to know- once they have manuals it's not likely to happen :D

The kids'll be selling scrumpy, and the mother-in-law's behind the garage with no knickers, gargling gonads.

If we can't make twenty quid between us on the day I'll give up.

Anyway, once I've broken your bike I can always sell you some spares.......

Have just got back in from the workshop day and I have to say it was totally worth the 200mile round trip! Thanks to Tony (and the other guys also) for making a day of it - just a shame we didn't get to have a proper rideout and a bbq.

That would be my fault :oops:

My valve timing was out by 180 degrees, so Tony spent most of the time stripping the engine down to put it all right for me... the storm is an entirely different animal now, she pulls all the way through to the redline cleanly and now i'm having to wrestle the with the front to keep it properly planted :)

I have to say I learnt one hell of a lot today, some of which went waaaaaay above my head, but if nothing else I'll be able to balance my own carbs from now on!

I really can't thank Tony enough for giving up his time and allowing us to take over his back garden, you sir, are a saint! :thumbup:

I'd also like to say a big thanks to Tony for hosting the workshop day.
Brought my mate along (Keith) and met chojindan (Dan), and two others fellow members.

Tony used Dan's bike to show us how to strip a bike down to remove the cam shafts, do the timing, carb balancing, front plastic removal and cluster wiring and many many more things along the way.
In all Tony had 5 of us to answer question from and I have to say it was one brilliant day. I enjoyed the company and would like to say a big thanks to Tony for helping us all out. No CCT's were fitted but we did the job on Dans bike as it needed the cams rotating 180degrees. And I'm happy to do the job on my own now.

Sorry we had to leave before we could get to sort out a BBQ, but as Dans bike took up all the day we ran out of time.
However even a 12 hour day and a 170 plus miles was worth it for the blast with Tony around his patch and to see Dan's face and response at the petrol station when Tony asked how was the bike now, he replied and I quote " Out of this world, NO out of this galaxy". Well worth the time helping him out.

Tony your help and assistance was very much appreciated, I hope other workshop day can be arranged so others like me can benefit from people like yourself.

Tony, big big thanks for yesterday, the day was absolutely great, I learnt one heck of a lot and its great to hear that Dan's bike is now running properly and that he has a big ear to ear grin (shame I had to leave a little early before I could see that).

Was also good to meet the other guys, all in all it made it a cracking day and I'll feel much more confident now in changing my CCTs (when they arrive :( ) thanks to your showing us all "how it is done" - when shown like you do it's really quite easy.

Big thanks to your wife also for putting up with us all day and letting us take over your garden. Was def worth the ride out, next time I might even bring my Storm as well, hoepfully she'll be back in one piece by then :D

Would just like to give my thanks to Tony, the workshop day was very enlightening I will certainly have the confidence to work on my bike, have already sorted my knocking headstock, took me 15mins, following Tony's instructions. It will be much less daunting fitting my manuals (if they ever get here). Was nice to meet some fellow Stormers as well, all a nice bunch of chaps. Was sorry I had to leave early but had a meal to go to with gf. Anyway thanks again Tony and thanks to your missus. Hope to see you all again soon.

Saturday:
It was a very good day, great to meet you all- you meet the nicest people etc etc.

Glad everyone got something out of the day, and I think it proves that workshop days are a good way forward for others to copy in your own patch.
It's a chance for a social, a rideout afterwards, and a laugh or two during the day.

Next I'm putting a training day together for Honda main dealer mechanics, so we don't see any more Storms coming out of dealers with mis-timed cams :twisted:

Sunday: Rob's bike
We fixed one Sunday with the rear inlet cam one tooth out, the front CCT had gone bending the front exhaust valves, and a snapped ex stud. About par for the course!

I had to take my "workshop" to Rob's as he'd already stripped his bike down, made a "workbench" out of a pallet with a vice bolted on to it and managed to grip enough of the broken stud to remove it (phew- otherwise I'd still be there!)
Took two bites at getting the valve timing and clearances right, luckily I had enough shims with me to get within tolerances.

Bazza dropped by to lend some moral support and a few helpful suggestions- cheers, mate!

But as you can see below, result!

When I arrived he'd already stripped the bike:

So I popped the head off to have a look at the valves to see what damage there was:

So I fitted new front ex valves, Rob assisted with lapping them in, and we re-installed it, shimmed and timed:

And it started!

He gave it a quick road test, and I'm done.
The more astute among you will notice that it still has a few bits left to bolt on; that's because it still needs the proper front exhaust studs fitting, a hose clamp and an exhaust clamp, so he's putting it back together properly himself.

Then he's going to clean my mucky oily fingerprints off it, and get some miles in :D

Yep thats about how it went! bike is purring as it should, rides much smoother now, dont know if its me or not but anyway cant wait to finish it off and get some miles on it (only done about 80 or so miles since I got it before this happened).

Tony , thanks again excellent work and hopefully be down for a ride soon (after a brands trackday hopefully!)

planning anymore workshops in the future tony?

i got wanna fit some manual CCTs (to ease my paranoia) and think i may check valve clearance and fit carb balance pipes while i have it apart.

Problem is i dont really have any where to work on my bike here (except out on the road) and its definetly a bonus to have someone around who has done these jobs before :D
